March is an exciting time of year: the birds are chirping, flowers are blooming and spring is upon us. You may not realize that March is also a special time of year because it’s Women’s History Month!
Women’s History Month Hits Different
This time last year, Women’s History Month caught my attention in a new way. When I thought of Women’s History Month, the big names like Susan B. Anthony, Frida Kahlo, and Maya Angelou came to mind! And the amazing list of impactful women doesn’t stop there!
A Night Out with Pace Center for Girls
This time last year, I was introduced to Pace Center for Girls. Pace Center for Girls is a nonprofit organization spanning across Florida and Georgia, providing at-risk middle and high school girls the resources and environment they need to succeed. Pace Center hosted “Ladies Night Out” to celebrate Women’s History Month and International Women’s Day. We snacked on charcuterie (girl dinner!), played Women’s History Trivia, and heard from local speakers and students who are participating in the Pace Center programs and are on track to graduate. Cyndi Lauper blasted from the speakers to initiate karaoke! It was a fun-filled night honoring women’s history and the next generation of women’s history in the making!
Celebrating Women And the Next Generation
How amazing is it that women can come together and support the next generation financially and have fun while making it happen!
As a woman who has learned and grown from the many special women in my life and those who have gone before me, pausing to think about the strides women have made over the years is extra meaningful.
For perspective, as little as 50 years ago, women were just finally able to apply for a mortgage or take a line of credit out on their own! Otherwise, they had to have a male co-signor, according to “The History Of Women And Mortgages” from Bankrate.com. About 60 years ago, laws came into place that allowed women to open a bank account whether they were single or married, without a male co-signor.
Your Next Financial Step Can Be History in the Making
Fast forward to today, where many of us ladies getting endless junk mail about offers for bank accounts and credit cards. As women, our own savings accounts and investments accounts are revolutionary, if you think about it! Taking the time to even set up your emergency fund or high-yield savings account, or starting to take the next step when it comes to saving for retirement, could be your own generational history in the making.
