If you have followed any of my blogs or podcasts, you know I have two adorable daughters, aged 2 and 4. As a family man, I feel strongly about instilling important values in my little ones, especially during the Thanksgiving season. So, I wanted to share some ideas I hope to show them as they grow. How being together with the people we love, giving back, like what we do with VISTE, and making smart food choices can make a big difference in our lives.
Cherishing Family Time
Thanksgiving isn’t just about the feast; it’s about the love we share with family and friends. It’s heartwarming, and here’s the thing – it’s heart-healthy, too! Being close to the people we adore can lower stress, strengthen our immune system, and even add years to our lives. So, when we gather with our loved ones, it’s not just a meal; it’s nourishing our hearts.
Volunteering with VISTE: Setting an Example
Our family’s got a tradition – we volunteer at VISTE. This local charity is all about helping out the elderly, especially during Thanksgiving. It’s not just about giving back; it’s also about teaching our little ones the joy of helping others. Studies show that being kind and doing good deeds can make kids happier and give them a sense of purpose. It’s a lesson we’re proud to share with our girls.
A Wholesome Thanksgiving for Growing Girls
Now, let’s talk turkey, or in our case, turkey and chicken nuggets (for the little ones). Thanksgiving feasts can be quite the spread, but we’re all about making healthy choices. We go for the good stuff like lean protein, veggies, and whole grains and try to keep a lid on the sugary and fatty foods. It’s all about balance, even for the kids. By filling their plates with good choices, we let them enjoy the Thanksgiving flavors without compromising their health.
This holiday season, we’re passing down the true spirit of Thanksgiving to our girls. It’s not just about food and fun; it’s about love, giving back, and making smart choices. These are the values that’ll shape them into happy, well-rounded individuals, and that’s what being a dad is all about.
