FLORIDA TROPICS SC ANNOUNCES NEW YOUTH SOCCER TOURNAMENT

Proceeds from the FYSA Youth Tournament to Benefit Special Olympics Florida

LAKELAND, FLA. (June 7, 2018) –“Let me win. But if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt.”  This is the mantra of Special Olympics athletes the world over.  As the title sponsor, Florida Tropics SC is proud to announce an exciting and unique youth soccer tournament, The Tropics Be Brave Tournament.

The FYSA youth tournament hosted by Lakeland Tropics FC will take place the weekend of October 19-21 at Lake Myrtle Soccer Complex in Auburndale. Age groups U9-U14 are invited to compete in this tournament.

A first of its kind tournament with the net proceeds being awarded to Special Olympics Florida,a leading nonprofit organization that offers life-changing opportunities for children and adults with intellectual disabilities to learn new skills, build confidence and achieve their fullest potential through sports training and competition.  Several organizations within the local community have joined together to support this event that has been designed to focus as much on giving back as it does on playing soccer.

Dr. Panagiotis lakovidis, CEO of Bond Clinic, is a passionate advocate in making Polk County a strong community by championing organizations that are making a significant impact for its citizens.  “New families that are building here have needs that can be met by being a good corporate partner,” said Iakovidis.  The Florida Tropics is just one organization that the Bond Clinic and the doctor support.

Eoghan Conlon, Head Coach and DOC for Lakeland Tropics FC shares, “we are excited to partner with, Special Olympics, Allen & Company and Bond Clinic for this tournament event. We view it as another fantastic opportunity to give back to our community by supporting Special Olympics Florida and celebrating their anniversary along with the many years of work completed by its countless volunteers and staff”.

Allen & Company of Florida, Inc. President Laura Hawley comments, “we are humbled by the many good works over the past five decades by the Special Olympics organization and proud to join these partners to contribute to their mission.”

“On behalf of all the athletes, families, coaches and volunteers that benefit from our programs, I would like to extend our gratitude to all who have worked so hard to bring this event to life.  It is an honor to have this event named after our Special Olympics Athlete’s Oath.  Our founder, Eunice Kennedy Shriver chose the Oath for our organization, as these are the same words the Gladiators in Ancient Rome would speak before going into the Arena,” said Special Olympics Florida President & CEO Sherry Wheelock. “We are excited for the Tropics Be Brave Tournament, and celebrating the achievements of all of our athletes.”
