The Power of Podcasts

It’s been almost 15 years since I first started sharing my thoughts on the “Air” at WLKF radio with Laura Hawley on Dollars & Sense. And now that I’ve evolved into my own podcast, I receive lots of compliments on how hearing a local professional gives our community a personal sense of connection through hearing a voice that isn’t on a big news conglomerate or TV station. So they are excited to hear someone they know or feel connected to in a sense. For me, this has been a rewarding opportunity to grow in new ways.

Podcasts have become increasingly popular. According to Edison Research, around 67 million people aged 12 and over listen to podcasts every month, and the listening audience continues to grow.

Understanding the power of podcasts, I wanted to share some of my favorites that I mentioned recently in my Health & Wealth podcast. I was fortunate enough to have Coach Blake Schiedt join me with our own Robin Chaddick, and we had some great conversations on the topic.

TED Health

Dr. Shoshana Ungerleider asks health questions that sometimes we don’t think about (how can we protect truth in the age of misinformation) to questions we think of often (how can I speed up my metabolism) well, I do… She breaks down these questions, gets real answers from professionals in the field who have done the research, and summarizes the answers in short 15-30 minute podcasts. She covers things from smart daily habits to new medical breakthroughs.

Fit As Schiedt

Coach Blake Schiedt gives us insight into our brains on how we determine what is “healthy and what isn’t” He helps us define and understand what we are putting in our bodies and even how we are working with our bodies to be our best. He breaks down his podcasts into 15-30 minute easily digestible pieces (See what I did there) so we can fit them in on the way home or on a trip to the store. Personally, I’m a big fan and a believer in Blake and what he does. (especially in our Lakeland Community)

Risk & Reward with Holland Henderson

Holland is one of my favorite people. He’s smart, genuine, and will do anything for his fellow man. He has the perfect mix of humor, humility, and plenty of analogies. He knows that the choices we all make in life steer us throughout our personal financial journey. Holland’s goal is to help educate the world on navigating those choices and managing the risks and rewards of tough financial decisions — both to work toward short-term goals… and tomorrow’s dreams. He especially enjoys featuring entrepreneurs and their journeys on his podcast.

Kids & Money with Chad Jones

How should I talk to my 6-year-old about what to do with that birthday money? Is 6 years old too young? As an advisor, we often get these questions on how to educate our children to be financially responsible before they have to learn the hard way. Helping them understand the impact of opportunity cost or credit or interest rates. Chad brings those questions and much more to his podcast. He talks about his personal life, from learning as a kid to teaching his own children.

These are just a few of my favorites (including my own). I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.
